Halloween Costumes

My kids were very indicicive (sp?) this year. Jonah could not decide between Buzz Lightyear and Incredible, Olivia wanted to be a Unicorn or Red Riding Hood (Rotkaeppchen). Well, I made her the witch! LOL

And I found a cheaper Incredible costume on Craigslist, so Buzz Lightyear was out, too!

Here they are modeling their costumes!

And they LOVE the costumes!

Family Moonlight Nature Walk

Friday evening was a family moon light walk again. The kids enjoy it so much to get their flashlights out and learn something about animals and nature.
The entire walk is sponsored by Broomfield and a volunteer is explaining everything and makes great guessing games with the kids. We did the Moonlight nature walk already twice and the kids always enjoyed it.
It is free and something else for the kids to enjoy. Unfortunately, my friend Joanna and her kids could not join the fun!

This time we went to the Lac Amora trailhead and got more information about coyotes. I did not know that they can jump UP 12 feet!! (ca. 3.50 m)

Usually these kind of nature walks take place in a full moon night. This did not happen this time but the moon was pretty full and it was pitch black down on the trail, just lit up by all the flashlights of the kids. How exciting!!

At Walden's Pond - again

I got Olivia from Preschool with the car because I needed to get a free equestrian saddle in Boulder = a find on Craigslist. On the way back we stopped again at Walden Pond's, where we were in May with my Mom already.

This time the swamp grass was mature and the kids had a blast running down the wooden bridge!

And in between we found a gross fluffy furry little caterpillar...of course Olivia took it into her hand and she wanted that I hold it...no way, Jose!

We got extremely 'lost' while walking on path, or no paths for that matter, around one pond. I was close to call 911 for sending out a helicopter since we were in man-high bushes and could not see any way. Kids had shorts and T-Shirts on and got some scratches from the branches. After being superbrave and cutting a way through the bushes and climbing over huge logs, we made it back to the car. We were super exhausted after this adventure and Walden Pond's is now a no-no for a looong time!

My little miracle girl!

So, the other day back in late August the kids played on the patio. Jonah wanted to play with the marbles and he got the big box with all the plastic out. Since the kids lost like 6 marbles within 2 days I keep the marbles somewhere else and just give the each of the kids one marble to play with that they have to return to me once done playing.

While I was washing the dishes, Olivia came up with a marble tower for herself and she helped Jonah creating one for him, too.

Patiently they were waiting for me being done with the dishes so that I could hand them a marble.

How impressed and astonished was I when I let the kids put a marble up into the top slot and EVERYTHING worked! The marble hit in each tower every 'street', did not fall through anything, got into the spinner and into the 'toilet bowl' and dropped into it's little reservoir at the bottom. How can Olivia have the ability to really think about the up-and-down steps/ways, and even put the semi circles to the right and to the left of the tower so that the tower sits balanced on the table top? She just turned 5!

This kid amazes me every day!

And when playing with the balloons, Olivia painted this picture of Jonah and his 'wishi'...Look how accurate she drew the fish even Jonah was sleeping and had the fish with him in bed!
'Accurate' in terms of the hanging hook on top, the fish with whiskers, wings and a fluke, the grabbing semi circle where a heart, a square and a triangle hangs from.
And Jonah actually has 5 fingers!

Yep, that's her...my little genius!

Update on the fire in Boulder

This morning we could not see any smoke clouds or smell anything bad. I hoped that the fire stopped!

But in the afternoon I could hear and see the tank airplanes flying every 10 minutes over our house direction Boulder...means, they are still trying to fight the flames!

Eventually, in the evening, it started to rain a little bit (luckily Boulder got even more rain!) and aferwards we saw again a beautiful rainbow...hope that it's God's word to stop the fire soon!

Yesterday we could see the huge smoke cloud but we could not smell any smoke. This morning the smoke cloud drifted from north to south parallel to the mountains and with opening the windows to let cool air inside the house, we could definitely smell it!

It is so unreal!

People lost their houses to fire, barely escaped with the shirts on their body and Olivia is back into Kindergarten and having a day as ususal, just a few miles away from the destruction!

My thoughts are with the families that lost their houses...

Boulder's Forest is on FIRE

This morning we went to a playdate with Jacob, Campbell and Joanna. Her husband Alex was in Boulder for some shooting practice (it was Labor day, a holy day and everybody was off of work) and when he came back at around noon, he told us that there was a fire in one of Boulder's canyons and the big, I mean BIG cloud that we see was of the fire - in an otherwise blue sky.

And this is what we still saw in the late afternoon out of our bedroom windows

Currently no people injured, a fire truck was a victim of the fire, but all people save. They even ended up closing the emergency shelters because obviously everybody evacuated could find shelter at friend's and family's homes!
They even opened up the Longmont County Fair grounds for livestock in danger (cows, horses..) and the shelter for taking on dogs and cats...what a disaster!
Obviously, the fire was started by a vehicle bumping into a propane gas tank!
