On Saturday we went to the Butterfly Pavillion. I asked my Mom on Wednesday if we should go then since it was snowy and just ugly weather outside but we decided to go to our Rec Center's indoor pool instead. The kids had a blast in the water but finally it was time to go to the Butterfly Pavillion!
First the tour starts with little insect critters, cocroaches (Kakerlaken), Stick Insects, Leaf insects, scorpions...all the little bugs...and then comes ROSIE the tarantula!
Olivia was VERY brave in no hesitating at all in holding Rosie. But Jonah did not want to hold her. He definitely 'did not like it'.
After the insects you go to the water part, where the Pavillion keeps some Horseshoe crabs you can touch, sea stars and sea urchins (Seestern und Seeigel). Olivia touched all, Jonah none. Actually, I did not touch any of those, either but this was just due to me having put lotion on my hands right before we entered the pavillion...
Finally, you enter the real butterfly pavillion... it hosts about 2000 butterflies at once and it is marvellous to see them fluttering around and seem to be so restless! I had a hard time catching a photograph of a beautiful blue one. But my Mom's light colored coat was obviously the highlight under the butterflies because she attracted four or five to sit on her...Olivia was sad that no butterfly tried to land on her :-(
Sniffing a large hibiscus blossom left her with all its pollen on her cheek *LOL*
The kids loved the pavillion and even my Mom said that it was wonderful!
